Fortune of the Year

An interactive experience promotes Chinese New Year for J&J Designers.

The Ask:
With Chinese New Year soon approaching, the studio engagement team wanted to find ways to promote awareness of Chinese New Year with the combo of yummy cultural snacks during happy hour 🥮 😋.

Process:
Since we only have 2 weeks for this project, the team wanted something that’s quick & easy that gives folks an opportunity to engage & learn more about some of the roots of Chinese New Year.

Opportunity:
This was a golden opportunity to dust off my motion & print design skills by using the monitor by the studio entrance & ALL the walls around the studio.

Animated video with Fortune for each animal

A loop video for the TV by the entrance for folks to discover which Chinese zodiac animal is based on their birth year. This gave viewers an opportunity to see what zodiac animal they identify with.

QR Code Posters (Inspired by Chinese New Year Posters)

Posters were hung around the studio with different animals for folks to interact with.

Scanning the QR code takes viewers to the zodiac animal fortune.

Takeaways:

Besides getting an opportunity to dust off my motion & graphic skill sets, it was super interesting to see how designers interact with both mediums. At some point, I saw a few folks actually crowd around the monitor and were hanging around to see what animal signs they identify with.

Through this project, I also learned how important it is to go beyond the day-to-day projects not because it’s part of the job but as a way to connect with others to build a stronger sense of community at work.

Special thanks to the J&J Studio Engagement Team for initiating such a thoughtful project.
